When I was diagnosed with cancer and going through the process of surgery, I was blessed to know that Cherie Matthews, owner and founder of HealinComfort had my back. She surprised me with the perfect apparel, the HealinComfort Recovery Shirt, a God-send.
Everything I needed was compacted to this beautiful shirt that I could wear around the house, to doctor appointments, dinner, etc. Having four draining tubes that made me look and feel from outer space, I didn’t know what to do with these tubes other than using safety pins but that would cause them to move around and cause more pain.
Cherie had a plan to make my experience one that I could live with. Not knowing who I was, her heart of gold made the heartbreaking experience of being diagnosed with cancer a little more bearable. Hi Cherie, I just had my breast implants replaced 4 days ago because my old ones were textured and could possibly cause lymphoma in a small number of women. I had 2 mastectomies years ago, had saline implants that finally deflated and then had them replaced with the textured ones which I just replaced with smooth (healthy) ones. I have 4 drains… two on each side which will be attached for approximately two weeks.
I heard about your Recovery Shirt and ordered one 2 days ago. The man who saw my online order (his name is Greg), called me to make sure he was sending them to the correct address (my PO Box). He was so thoughtful and I want to thank him as well. I received the shirt today just 2 days after I ordered it and I LOVE IT! The pulling pain has lessened and I am so thankful to you. It is a simple but ingenious idea! I hope you’re very successful. You should be. I will pass the info on to all my women (and men) friends so that if they ever need something like this, they can easily order it.

I put the healincomfort shirt on the day I left the hospital after my double mastectomy. I loved it! The lanyard was great for showering.

I just got a lovely email from Nancy’s sister (who is staying w/ her temporarily) that was sent globally to Nancy’s Support Crew and wanted to share this with you: From Nancy’s sister: “There’s not a pill for the emotional part of this, and that hurts as much or more. All my silly chatter about what gorgeous ta-tas she can get doesn’t help much when she looks in the mirror. Rene, her neighbor, picked up Rachel (her dog) from Dog Boyz and honed in on a problem we were looking for a solution to. Now she has just come over in a SUPPORT CREW Tee, having made a run across town to a lady who is a breast cancer survivor and has developed something that holds up the four drainage bags that will be attached to Nancy for at least the next 11 days and are truly a pain. There’s a good bit more to this wonderful story, but as Nancy crawled into bed, she said “I’ll think of my shadow, not what I see in the mirror.” Ride on!
I stumbled upon your web site via Know Cancer. Your shadow story lifted my spirits today. I am a breast cancer survivor, currently completing seven more months of chemo. I had a unilateral mastectomy in October and finished my toxic chemotherapy April 15. Right now I am struggling with the identity crisis of missing my old long hair and covering up what I see as a gray-haired, marine style stubble. It is very, very hard to look in the mirror every morning. It seems like so very long before my hair will be even long enough to style. I feel impatient. I am so thankful for this Heal In Comfort Recovery shirt. It was very useful post surgery to have the pockets for drains and the velcro for easy access. It made it so much easier to maneuver getting in and out of the hospital bed to the wheelchair and especially after I got home.
The shirt is awesome!!! The pockets for the drains are just perfect!!! Can't believe these are not in hospitals for purchase. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. My surgery is scheduled for May 16th. Trying to be prepared as best I can after reading so many articles, trying to get everything for comfort after the surgery. Was feeling "the poor me" this morning, so opted to work from home today. I was diagnosed on 4/11/16 with right breast cancer and had a mastectomy on 5/5/16. Prior to the surgery I ordered your pink shirt (just ordered the blue one today) and came home in it. I have been wearing it at home because of its comfort and ease and I thank you for them. I couldn't believe how much easier it was to have actual pockets for my drain and pump instead of having them safety pinned and hanging from my neck. Awesome! Best get-well gift ever! It really meant a lot to me to know that you were thinking of me during this difficult time. It's amazing how much it helps when friends really let you know that they care. I just wanted to write real quick and Thank You for the pink "Heal in Comfort" shirt you sent Joanna. What an amazingly thoughtful, and even more important, useful gift! It was exactly what she needed to be much, much more comfortable during her recovery last week. I'm sure my mom has kept you informed, but she had her double mastectomy last Monday morning and had 4 drains put in. Those drains needed somewhere to rest when she was up and about, and that's where the shirts inside pockets came in handy. By Friday afternoon she had 3 of the 4 drains out, and yesterday she had the 4th one taken out. And she liked the shirt so much, I'm pretty sure it'll still be getting more use going forward. 🙂

The best choice I made was to purchase garments to wear after a planned double mastectomy. I purchased three of these shirts that was a saving grace for me. At the hospital the staff were impressed with the shirts, how easy it was to put them on /off, the areas where drains went. I LOVE how the fabric is so light and it doesn't hold perspiration which makes my life so much better because when you have drains you are not allowed to take a bath. I can walk around my home/ to the front door and feel comfortable and covered. Thank you for creating this shirt.
