Hello Cherie,
My name is Kim and I am Kristine …k’s sister (the lady you had lunch with today). I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to meet and speak with her and my mother. I believe you gave each of them peace, I know you have helped her to have more courage, which she was seeking. I have been trying to give my sister links to support groups and other information (such as your website) to help in some small way, as our mother will be her main caretaker.
I am glad to know that there are people who have courage and will take the time to help another through the most challenging of times. You are a blessing and may you continue to be blessed in your life!

Cherie Matthews has the largest heart I know. Daily she looks for ways to selflessly help others. Her soul is beautiful and I’m a better person for knowing her.MessageWhen you meet Cherie Mathews, you know you’ve met someone special. She’s one of those people everyone just wants to be around. She’s dynamic, positive and full of life but all of that pales in comparison to her enthusiasm as she shares the passion she has as she shares her mission to help woman fighting cancer. Most people would be happy to have survived breast cancer, but Cherie took her experience and used it to help others. Spend a couple of minutes with Cherie, and you’ll wonder how you can help her. Are you supportive of women who have been diagnosed and want a “Support Crew” shirt or a “Be Brave – Fight Like a Girl” shirt? Do you want to give a “Healincomfort” shirt to someone you know personally? Are you a business deciding to join the “Gift a Shirt” program? The World needs to hear about Cherie healincomfort.com], but in the meantime, I recommend that you make it a point to share in her compassionate journey. You’ll be glad you did!
Again, not that thank you encompassed my gratitude, but I am unable to find another set of words that is more appropriate.
THANK YOU!
Kim……

Hi Cherie, I am a nurse working for a breast surgeon. One of our mastectomy patients came in wearing your shirt and lanyard and I am impressed! I have bookmarked your site to have it handy to give to future patients. Some of our women are indigent and on public aid, I would like to find out how to get them a shirt and lanyard pre-operatively. Thank you and best of health to you!

Hi Cherie,
I really appreciated the shirt so much – thank you for sending it to me via Michele. I put the healincomfort shirt on the day I left the hospital after my double mastectomy. I loved it! It was comfortable, easy to take on and off, and fit perfectly over my surgical drains. I was so happy to not have to wear an ill-fitting men’s shirt to get something roomy enough in my midsection, where I needed more room. I also really enjoyed the bright color of my shirt – it was fun to wear and to see myself in.

Scars remind us of where we’ve been. They don’t have to dictate where we’re going.
Your scars have caused you to be creative, inventive and compassionate to the world in which you live. In a way they have dictated where you are going; but in a positive way.

Hi Cherie,
I stumbled upon your web site via Know_ Cancer.com. Your shadow story lifted my spirits today. I am a breast cancer survivor, currently completing seven more months of Herceptin. I had a unilateral mastectomy in October and finished my toxic chemo therapy April 15.
Right now I am struggling with the identity crisis of missing my old long hair and covering up what I see as a gray-haired, marine style stubble. It is very, very hard to look in the mirror every morning. It seems like so very long before my hair will be even long enough to style. I feel impatient. Your shadow story made me realize that I am still me and I can still make a difference in this world. Your work inspires me so much. Thank you.
Your Bosom Buddy,
Koryn

My name is Stephanie House, and I am a triathlete trying to make a difference as I train for Ironman Coeur d’Alene. This is my 3rd attempt at the Ironman distance, and I would like to make all of the miles I log more meaningful and give them a purpose.
I am no stranger to adversity. I have fought my way through every hurdle to achieve this accomplishment. I had to DNF (Did Not Finish) on the bike on my first Ironman, and then I broke my elbow 4 weeks prior to my second attempt in a bike accident requiring a handful of screws to put things back together. As I was going through the physical therapy to regain my range of motion, I could not believe how difficult it was to heal from this, even though I knew I was going to live another day.
One year later, fully healed and ready for my 3rd attempt, I have been inspired by Cherie Mathews, a survivor and wonderful woman who wants to make a difference from her adversity. There were times when she didn’t think she would live another day, yet she overcame something that I can only imagine and dwarfs what I experienced with breaking my elbow. She has started helping others by creating a post-surgical shirt one can wear as they heal, http://www.healincomfort.com. To help support her efforts and raise awareness for this cause, I dedicate my training to her and the other women to help them live another day.

Cherie,
‘My lovely sister-in-law passed away 2 weeks ago at age 52 from the cancer she has been fighting so bravely for more than 12 years. I would like to honor her memory with a donation to your awesome work. Please let me know how to make my check out and where to send it.
Diana would love the work you are doing. She had countless surgeries over the past 12 years, and I know she would have loved the shirts you are making. I am sure my brother would be honored for you to put her name on your Web site. It is Diana McLennan.

Hey Cherie!
Just wanted to let you know that I received the shirt and cards and goodies and really want to thank you for doing that. Leslie actually said that she is “excited”! First of all, to be in such good company (told her you were making a shirt for Lance and Leslie) and secondly, to have something “girly” to wear home because she was getting ready to use her husband’s shirts.
Hey, does the lanyard thing really work? It’s for the drainage tubes, right? Do they just lay inside the loop of the lanyard or the actual metal clip? Well, I’m going to give her the shirt tomorrow and her surgery is Thursday.
Cherie’s reply:
The lanyard’s metal clip holds the tube part of the drains, so pinch the clip and place both tubes through the clip, with the drain bulbs laying together in front against the stomach. This way getting changed and having a shower is so much easier because your hands are free. She won’t be able to lift her arms over her head for a while
After she has been home for a couple of days, send her my Shadow Story to encourage her and visit my website so she can see the Fox 7 News clip – hopefully it will be a comfort. I should have sent two lanyards, one for daytime and the other for showers. Let me know how she is doing and if she needs to connect to someone who has been there, please give her my cell.
Bye for now,
Cherie

Hi Cherie,
I just have returned from giving my neighbor, Nancy, her shirt and cards. I raced home to put on my Support Crew Shirt and went directly over there. Her sister greeted me, and Nancy came walking into the living room. The response was just as you stated, from noticing my SUPPORT CREW Shirt, to reading the card I wrote her, and then showed them your postcard, explained your story, and gave her the shirt as I demo’d how it worked.
Both Nancy and her sister exclaimed, “Oh my goodness, we have been dealing with these dang tubes all day!!!” She had tried putting them in a fanny pack, but they were so heavy (she has 2 on each side/4 total) and was struggling to get comfortable w/her new mandatory companions.
I am SO very glad you encouraged me to meet with you this evening rather than wait another day!!
To top it all off, I read her your shadow story, and she broke down and cried….as did her sister. She told me she had already had a couple moments in front of the mirror today…… ” Cherie, I thank you so much for helping me to help someone else to give some comfort, reassurance, and support feels wonderful….and is so appreciated by such a wonderful woman, my neighbor, Nancy. The joy you brought her, you brought also to me.
You do indeed live up to your name…..(from one french named person to another)!
Hope to see you again soon, a million thanks warmly,
Rene’

Hey Cherie!
I gave Leslie your “package” and she really really loved it. She loved the feel of the shirt [and] the color. I also forwarded her your T.V. Channel 7 debut, and she said she’d check it out.
Thanks again. I feel like I actually did “something” to help her…thanks to you.

It was great meeting you last week at the High Heel Happy Hour! I had my mammogram yesterday and proudly wore my Support Crew pink bracelet.
Last night I went to Jarrell to accept a check from the volunteer firefighters and as you can see from the picture, I was wearing my Support Crew bracelet!
Thanks so much for all that you do for the women in our area! The shirts rock and so do you!

Hi Cherie,
I just got a lovely email from Nancy’s sister (who is staying w/ her temporarily) that was sent globally to Nancy’s Support Crew and wanted to share this with you:
From Nancy’s sister:
“There’s not a pill for the emotional part of this, and that hurts as much or more. All my silly chatter about what gorgeous ta-tas she can get doesn’t help much when she looks in the mirror. Rene, her neighbor, picked up Rachel (her dog) from Dog Boyz and honed in on a problem we were looking for a solution to. Now she has just come over in a SUPPORT CREW Tee, having made a run across town to a lady who is a breast cancer survivor and has developed something that holds up the four drainage bags that will be attached to Nancy for at least the next 11 days and are truly a pain. There’s a good bit more to this wonderful story, but as Nancy crawled into bed, she said “I’ll think of my shadow, not what I see in the mirror.”
How’s that for “what goes around comes around”? I told you your “shadow story” was powerful!!
Take care and Happy 4th!
